  17. I have been using KERMIT for years and years and am a fan.  I have
  18. bought the book and everything (I don't have it now though).  Anyway the
  19. minor problem I have is this: I have been using c-kermit 5A(189) for
  20. OS/2 for quite awhile now.  Appearently, the modem I was using raised
  21. the carrier signal because it worked just fine.  I just bought a new US
  22. Robotics 14400 external modem today and hooked it up to my OS/2 machine. 
  23. Now, when I attempt to connect, I get a message "No Carrier" (or
  24. something to that effect), and I can't connect to the modem.  I have
  25. done 'set ?' and various other commands looking for a fix - 'set carrier
  26. on' doesn't do it.

  28. I know I can just flip the modem dip switch to make carrier always on,
  29. but this seems wrong. I have extensive experience in RS-232
  30. communications and carrier is, in fact, suppose to be related to the
  31. actual carrier signal between the connected modems. Why is kermit
  32. looking for carrier before I've even dialed? Doesn't make sense! If
  33. kermit wants to look for the presence of a DCE device, it should look at
  34. Data Set Ready (DSR), not a signal which shouldn't be present until
  35. connection. Any comments from anyone?

  37. BTW - I am sending this message by flipping to a DOS window and dialing
  38. out using MSKERMIT 3.01. This kermit doesn't get hung up on carrier :-)
